This 1996 Proof gold £5 coin (also known as the Quintuple Sovereign or Crown) was issued to mark the 70th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.
It was one of the final coins to feature the third portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Raphael Maklouf. The reverse design, created by Avril Vaughan, features five flags with Windsor Castle depicted in the background.
Two of the flags display the years 1926 and 1996, while the other three represent the Royal Standard, the Union Flag, and the Queen's personal flag.
The edge of the coin is inscribed VIVAT REGINA ELIZABETHA, which not only wishes the Queen a long life but also recalls the anthem sung at her Coronation.
