1957 Gold Full Sovereign MS64
A 1957 full sovereign graded MS64, the first year of sovereign production after a twenty-five year gap since 1932, when the Royal Mint resumed striking to meet bullion demand. Mary Gillick's first portrait of the Queen is on the obverse, bare head facing right, with Pistrucci's St George and the Dragon on the reverse.
About this coin
Production resumed that year to meet bullion demand, returning the sovereign to the Royal Mint's output under Elizabeth II after a quarter of a century.
The 1957 issue is identified by its 168-grain milled edge, against the 108 grains of later Elizabeth II sovereigns.
Mary Gillick's first portrait of the Queen is on the obverse, bare head facing right. Pistrucci's St George and the Dragon is on the reverse, the date below the exergue line.
