Our record

Ultra Cameo coins we handle

Coins of this kind that have passed through the shop, each one of one, photographed in the holder it sold in. If one of them is the coin you are after, tell us and we will look for another.

What Ultra Cameo describes

On a proof, the raised parts of the design are frosted and the flat field behind them is mirrored. Where that contrast is strong across both sides, NGC adds Ultra Cameo to the grade. PCGS calls the same thing Deep Cameo. Coins carrying either designation are listed on this page.

It sits beside the grade rather than inside it, which is why a holder reads PF70 Ultra Cameo: one judgement about condition, one about how the coin was struck and finished.

Why it is not on every proof

The frosting comes off the dies, and dies wear. Coins struck early in a run tend to show the strongest contrast, and later ones can be noticeably flatter. Not every proof earns the designation, and on some issues very few do.

It is a description of appearance, not of rarity or worth. We list it because collectors search for it and because it is a real difference you can see in the hand, not because it is a promise about what a coin will be worth later.

Checking a coin before you buy it

Every graded coin listed here shows its certification number. Type that number into the grading service's own verification page and you will see the same coin, the same grade and the same holder, described by somebody with no stake in the sale. We would rather you checked.

Coins are sent sealed in the holder they were graded in. Breaking the holder ends the grade, so we never open one, and neither should you if the grade is part of why you bought it.

NGC and PCGS certified

Every graded coin arrives sealed in its original holder, with the certification number given when you enquire.
